It is said that to be forewarned is to be forearmed. From God’s divine library, we find a provision for us to be forearmed in this forewarning: “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement” (Hebrews 9:27).
The first thing that is clear from this scripture is that everyone will certainly die. We all know this and have accepted it as a reality of our lives on earth. The second is futuristic in another dimension of existence. It says there is a certain judgement awaiting everyone that has lived out his/her life here on earth and is dead. It is a realm of existence where your real you: spirit infused soul will face judgement.
The sentence in that judgement is scary: “the soul that sinneth, it shall die…” (Ezekiel 18:20). It is scary because we have all sinned! It says in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” And again, the death referred to here is different from the death of this physical body. It is a state of eternal death where the spirit infused soul is separated from God which results in eternal torment. The Holy Bible refers to it as the ‘second death’. Witness Revelations 21:8: “but the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
The only way you and I can escape this certain terrible death is through God’s plan of salvation by which we become born of God. Revelations 2:11 says in this wise: “he that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches, he that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.” Who are these overcomers? Answer: “for whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world…Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the son of God”(1 John 5: 4, 5). Those born of God are the overcomers that will not be hurt by the second death. But to be born of God, you must take a step of faith to believe and accept his plan of salvation through Christ. See John 1: 12, 13: “but as many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
It is God’s love that has provided a way of escape for us and functions to acquit us from the certain judgement: “for God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”(John3:16). That is how and why the Lord Jesus, “…appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself…so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation”(Hebrews 9: 26&28). Beloved, it is time for you to look up to Him?
What would be your response today? “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life trough Jesus Christ our Lord”(Romans 6:23). Believe! Accept God’s way of escape for you: “that if you shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10).
You can be saved right now if you believe. Pray thus:
Dear God, I recognise that I am a sinner unable to save myself. So today, I submit to your love. I ask forgiveness for my sins. I confess that I believe in my heart that Jesus, the son of God, died for my sins and resurrected for my justification. I receive you, Jesus, into my life as my Saviour, Lord and Master. I am saved; I am born again; hallelujah, I have the life of God in me now.
If you meant these words in your heart, congratulations; for you are now God’s own child!
